Flames ripped through a mobile home in Collier County on Tuesday afternoon

Flames ripped through a mobile home in Collier County on Tuesday afternoon β€” forcing neighbours into a desperate rescue attempt as a woman and her dog became trapped inside.

The fire broke out along Cherry Tree Lane in the Lely area, with thick smoke and loud explosions sending residents rushing into the street.

Witnesses say the blaze began near an outdoor grill before rapidly spreading to a neighbouring trailer, engulfing both homes within minutes.

Neighbours, fearing the worst, raced to wake the sleeping woman as flames closed in around the property. Some used garden hoses in a frantic attempt to hold back the fire until crews arrived.

Firefighters from Greater Naples Fire Rescue then entered the burning home to rescue the woman’s dog, Bear, carrying the animal to safety through heavy smoke.

Bear suffered minor burns to his paws but is expected to recover.

The woman was taken to hospital. Her condition has not been released.

Investigators are now working to determine exactly what sparked the blaze, while the American Red Cross is assisting those displaced by the fire.
