Here we go then, settle yourselves in, because it’s derby day drama down on the Gulf Coast—and it’s FC Naples who are making all the noise!
Under the lights at the Paradise Coast Sports Complex, in front of a lively crowd just shy of 5,000, Sarasota Paradise came to town hoping to spoil the party—but they’ve left with absolutely nothing to show for it. Finished here: FC Naples 2, Sarasota Paradise 0… and let me tell you, it was as controlled as it was convincing!
From the first whistle, FC Naples looked like a side with a plan—and more importantly, the quality to execute it. They zipped the ball about with confidence, dictated the tempo, and had Sarasota chasing shadows at times.
And who was at the heart of it? Step forward Andres FerrĂn! Lively, sharp, and a constant menace in the final third—every time Naples went forward, you felt something was brewing.
Behind him, Marc Torrellas was pulling the strings like a seasoned conductor, spraying passes, breaking lines, and setting the rhythm. Sarasota just couldn’t get a foothold.
Now then, if Sarasota were hoping for a response after the break—well, it never quite arrived. Naples stayed organised, stayed disciplined, and crucially… stayed ruthless.
At the back, captain Edward Delgado marshalled his defence superbly. Calm, commanding, and not a hint of panic. That’s now another clean sheet—three in the competition—and you start to see why this side is right up near the top.
Sarasota did have their moments—Sander Røed tested the keeper more than once—but it always felt like Naples had the answers.
FerrĂn firing again – a forward bang in form and full of confidence
Torrellas the metronome – everything good flowed through midfield
Delgado the general – another rock-solid defensive display
Sarasota struggles continue – plenty of effort, but lacking that cutting edge
So what does it all mean? Well, FC Naples march on to 10 points from five games—three wins, one draw, one defeat—and they’re right in the mix at the top of USL League One.
As for Sarasota Paradise… it’s back to the drawing board. Four points so far, and they’ll need to find some consistency—especially in front of goal—if they’re to climb the table.
Circle this one in your diary: these two go again on June 6 in the USL Cup group stage. And if tonight’s anything to go by… you won’t want to miss it!
And there we have it—derby bragging rights firmly in Naples’ hands, a professional job, two goals, another clean sheet… and the rest of the league will be taking notice 👀
