Update – 3 dead, 4 others injuredÂ
After Horror Semi-Trailer Crash On I-75
At least one person has died and five others have been injured following a devastating crash involving an overturned semi-trailer on Interstate 75 in Collier County.
The collision brought traffic to a standstill for hours on one of Southwest Florida’s busiest highways as emergency crews battled to reach victims trapped amid twisted wreckage and scattered debris.
Several of the injured were airlifted to hospital by medical helicopter, underlining the severity of the incident.
Southbound lanes of I-75 between Pine Ridge Road and Golden Gate Parkway were closed while first responders worked at the scene and investigators began piecing together what happened.
Motorists faced lengthy delays as traffic backed up for miles.
Authorities have since reopened the southbound carriageway, but questions remain about what caused the semi-trailer to overturn.
The Florida Highway Patrol is leading the investigation and has yet to release the identity of the person who died.
For those caught in the traffic disruption, it was an inconvenience.
For one family, however, Sunday ended in tragedy.
Investigators will now examine whether speed, road conditions, mechanical failure or driver actions played any role in the crash.
As Florida enters its busy summer travel season, the incident serves as another stark reminder of the potentially catastrophic consequences when large commercial vehicles are involved in highway collisions.
More details are expected to emerge as the investigation continues.
