1 Injured, 1 in Custody Following Shooting at Paradise Sports Complex in Collier County

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. โ€” A late-morning shooting at Paradise Sports Complex on Friday left one man injured and another in custody, according to the Collier County Sheriffโ€™s Office.

Deputies say the shooting was reported at 10:30 a.m., prompting an immediate response to the popular sports facility. Upon arrival, deputies located the injured victim and quickly detained the suspected shooter.

The victim has been identified as 43-year-old James Raynard of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities have not released details about the extent of his injuries.

The suspect, 38-year-old William Wharton, also from Winston-Salem, is facing an aggravated battery chargeconnected to the shooting, CCSO said.

Deputies remained at the scene through the afternoon as they collected evidence, interviewed witnesses, and worked to determine what led to the incident. The sheriffโ€™s office has not released additional information about a possible motive.

The investigation is ongoing.
