13-Year-Old Student Arrested for Written Threats Toward School

NAPLES, Fla. — A 13-year-old student from Innovation Preparatory Academy in Naples was arrested after making threats of violence toward the school via social media, according to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).

The student has been charged with written threats to kill or cause bodily harm, a second-degree felony under Florida Statute 836.10.

Detectives determined there was no actual threat to the school. However, out of an abundance of caution, an increased law enforcement presence was implemented on campus Wednesday.

“School safety remains our top priority. If you see something of concern, report it, don’t repost it,” CCSO said in a statement.

Residents are encouraged to report concerns by calling 911 or the Collier County Sheriff’s Office at 239-252-9300. Anonymous tips may also be submitted through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-8477.

Suspicious school-related activity can also be reported through the Fortify FL app, which sends information directly to law enforcement and school officials.
