⚽ FC Naples 2 – 2 Corpus Christi FC
USL League One – Match Report
Well, well, well… if you fancied a quiet evening of football in Southwest Florida, you picked the wrong night.
Under the warm Naples lights at Paradise Coast Sports Complex, FC Naples and Corpus Christi FC served up a proper end-to-end contest that finished 2–2, and if you blinked you probably missed something.
Naples came flying out of the blocks, the home crowd sensing another victory after the season-opening win last week. The hosts moved the ball quickly, attacked with purpose, and before long the ball was in the back of the net. The home fans were on their feet, arms in the air, thinking, “Here we go again!”
But hold on a minute…
Corpus Christi weren’t in Florida for the sightseeing. The Texans responded with a goal of their own, silencing the stands and reminding everyone that this one was going to be a fight. Just when Naples thought they had regained control with another goal to go ahead, Corpus Christi popped up again to level it.
And suddenly it’s 2–2.
From there it was frantic stuff. Chances at both ends, goalkeepers scrambling, defenders throwing themselves into tackles like their lives depended on it. The Naples supporters urging their side forward for a winner, Corpus Christi digging in to steal all three points.
In the end though — nothing doing.
The referee blows the whistle and the points are shared.
So after two matches, FC Naples remain unbeaten with a win and a draw to start their campaign. Not perfect, but certainly not a bad place to be this early in the season.
And if the rest of the season delivers matches like this one…
Well folks, we’re in for a very entertaining ride. ⚽
