NAPLES, Fla. — Shoppers at Coastland Center Mall got more than bargains and coffee breaks on Friday—they got a surprise dose of tail wags, wet noses, and heartwarming moments.

The Crisis Care Canine™ team, joined by partners from the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Naples Comprehensive Health (NCH), and Golden PAWS Assistance Dogs, held a joint training session inside the busy mall.

The exercise focused on teaching the dogs how to remain calm and effective in high-traffic, distraction-heavy environments—skills that are vital in crisis response and community support work.

But while the training had serious goals, the atmosphere was anything but solemn. Families stopped to greet the dogs, children posed for pictures, and shoppers left with smiles brighter than their shopping bags.

“These trainings ensure our dogs are ready when they’re needed most,” said one Crisis Care Canine™ team member. “At the same time, they give us a chance to connect with the community in a positive way.”

The event highlighted growing partnerships between law enforcement, healthcare providers, and nonprofits in Southwest Florida. Golden PAWS Assistance Dogs, known for their service and therapy dog programs, played a key role in the exercises.

By the end of the day, the dogs had sharpened their skills—and lifted spirits throughout the mall.
