Hideaway Beach Club Reopens on Marco Island Three Years After Hurricane Ian’s Devastation

MARCO ISLAND, Fla. — Three years after Hurricane Ian brought catastrophic flooding and an electrical fire reduced its clubhouse to ashes, the Hideaway Beach Club has officially reopened with a brand-new, state-of-the-art sports and wellness center.

The original facility, a cherished hub for residents and members, was destroyed in late 2022 when Hurricane Ian sent 6 to 8 feet of storm surge sweeping across the private beachfront property. Less than a week later, an electrical fire — sparked by storm-related damage — engulfed the structure, leaving behind nothing but scorched remnants. The disaster was ruled a total loss.

Determined to rebuild stronger, the Hideaway Beach Club launched reconstruction efforts in 2024. After nearly two years of design, permitting, and construction, the new 34,000-square-foot facility opened its doors this fall — symbolizing resilience and renewal for one of Marco Island’s most exclusive communities.

The new sports and wellness center is built to modern hurricane-resistant standards and features:

  • Three brand-new bocce courts

  • Eight resurfaced tennis courts

  • Six pickleball courts, reflecting the sport’s surging popularity

  • Expanded fitness areas and spa amenities for members

The project also underscores Marco Island’s broader post-Ian recovery, as coastal communities continue to rebuild infrastructure and homes with higher resilience standards.

For longtime residents and members, the Hideaway Beach Club’s reopening marks a major milestone — not just for the neighborhood, but for the island’s spirit of endurance.

Hideaway Beach Club now stands ready once again to welcome its members — with stronger foundations, renewed energy, and an eye toward a safer, brighter future.
