A small plane has crashed just short of the runway at Marco Island Executive Airport in southwest Florida, prompting an emergency response—but remarkably, no injuries have been reported.
The incident happened shortly after 12:15pm on Sunday, near 2001 Mainsail Drive, as the aircraft was approaching to land. For reasons not yet clear, something went wrong during the final approach, causing the plane to come down just in front of the airport.
Emergency crews from Greater Naples Fire, Marco Island Fire, and Collier County EMS were quickly on the scene. Despite the dramatic nature of the crash, authorities say the pilot—who was the only person on board—escaped without injury.
The Collier County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that one lane of Mainsail Drive remains blocked as crews continue to manage the aftermath.
An investigation is now underway to determine exactly what caused the incident.
