Authorities Identify Couple Killed in Marco Island Jet Ski Crash

Authorities have identified the two people killed in a jet ski crash on Marco Island over the weekend.

According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), 67-year-old Stephen R. Mariani and 49-year-old Rita Mariani died Sunday afternoon after their jet ski struck a boat that was secured on a lift in Caxambas Bay. The impact ejected both into the water, and they died from their injuries.

Marco Island Police confirmed that Stephen Mariani was a former officer with the department but did not release further information about his service. Court records indicate that the couple were residents of Marco Island.

FWC said the crash remains under active investigation and is asking anyone who may have video or information about the incident to contact investigators.
