Collier County Finalizes $20.7 Million Land Purchase for Park and Housing Opportunities
Collier County has completed the purchase of 2,247 acres in northeastern Collier County for $20.7 million. The acquisition opens the door for future development of a regional park, affordable housing, and conservation uses.
The property, located adjacent to Lake Trafford and west and southwest of Immokalee near State Road 29, was purchased from Diane R. Williams and Carrie E. Williams, co-trustees of the James E. Williams estate trust. The Board of County Commissioners approved the purchase in May 2024, and the transaction closed on September 18, 2025.
The land purchase was negotiated by LSI Companies, with Billy Rollins and Hunter Ward representing the sellers.
“This acquisition provides Collier County with flexibility for long-term planning,” said Rollins. “The property has potential for a regional park, workforce housing, and conservation areas, making it a win-win for the community.”
Funding
According to the Collier County Clerk of Courts, the purchase will be funded as follows:
$11.9 million from the Conservation Collier fund
$5.95 million from the affordable housing entitled fund
$1.1 million from the affordable housing not entitled fund
$1.8 million from the parks department fund
Future Uses
The property, which includes existing farmland and areas already entitled for approximately 300 residential units, will support a variety of community needs. Planned uses include:
Conservation and environmental protection
Affordable and workforce housing
Parks and recreation facilities
Transportation and stormwater management infrastructure
Economic development opportunities
Potential co-location of fire operations with the Immokalee Fire and Rescue District
The purchase represents one of the largest public land acquisitions in Southwest Florida in 2025 and underscores the County’s commitment to expanding housing opportunities and public amenities for residents.
