COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. — Four people were killed and three others seriously injured

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. — Four people were killed and three others seriously injured following a devastating three-vehicle crash early Thursday morning along State Road 82 west of Corkscrew Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash was reported at approximately 12:27 a.m. and involved a Kia Forte, a Kia Sedona, and a Subaru Ascent.

Investigators determined that a Kia Forte was traveling eastbound on State Road 82 behind a Kia Sedona, while a Subaru Ascent was traveling westbound. According to FHP, the driver of the Kia Forte attempted to pass the Kia Sedona by entering the westbound lane, directly into the path of the oncoming Subaru.

The Kia Forte collided head-on with the Subaru Ascent, causing the Forte to spin and strike the Kia Sedona.

The driver of the Kia Forte, a 30-year-old woman from Immokalee, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Subaru, a 51-year-old woman from Fort Myers, and a 25-year-old female passenger, also from Fort Myers, were likewise pronounced dead at the scene.

Three additional passengers in the Subaru — an 85-year-old woman, a 51-year-old man, and a 25-year-old man, all from Fort Myers — were transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. FHP later confirmed the 85-year-old woman died at the hospital, bringing the total number of fatalities to four.

The driver of the Kia Sedona, a 41-year-old man from Naples, was not injured, according to the crash report.

State Road 82 remained closed for several hours overnight as troopers conducted a traffic homicide investigation. The crash remains under investigation.
