Naples Man Shocked to Learn IRS Frowns Upon Cash Mountains, Creative Accounting

📰 Naples Man Shocked to Learn IRS Frowns Upon Cash Mountains, Creative Accounting 🧐💸

NAPLES, FL — In a plot twist absolutely no one—least of all the IRS—found surprising, a Naples man has been sentenced to federal prison after attempting what can only be described as the DIY version of national economic sabotage.

Alexis Garcia, a once-proud manager of Tape Drywall Services Inc., pleaded guilty in August to conspiracy to defraud the United States—a charge that sounds almost classy until you read the details. 😌⚖️

💰 “It’s Not Stealing, It’s…Creative Payroll Strategy”

From 2017 to 2019, Garcia and his co-conspirator allegedly decided that payroll paperwork was optional—much like using turn signals in Naples. Instead of paying workers through traditional methods (you know, the legal ones), they cashed more than 3,600 checks totaling $28 million.

That’s right. $28 million in checks. Cashed. As if they were running a currency exchange booth at Costco. 🏦🧾💵

They then handed over the cash to company foremen to pay workers off-the-books, presumably with a wink and a nod and the occasional “Forget you ever saw me.” 😏🤝

🧮 IRS: “So About That $4.2 Million…”

Of course, the IRS eventually noticed that Tape Drywall Services seemed to be operating on a tax plan best described as “LOL, no thanks.”

By failing to report cash wages and skipping out on withholding Social Security, Medicare, and federal income taxes, Garcia managed to stiff Uncle Sam out of over $4.2 million.

The IRS was not amused. (Shocking, I know.) 😐🇺🇸

⛓️ 30 Months of Reflection Time

A federal judge has now sentenced Garcia to 30 months in prison, which is about two and a half years—or roughly the amount of time it takes for Naples traffic on U.S. 41 to move one mile during season. 🚗🕰️

He’ll also be required to pay back every cent of the $4.2 million…which should be easy, considering he definitely doesn’t have any of it left stuffed in a drywall bucket somewhere. Definitely. Absolutely. For sure. 👀🪣💵

📌 Final Thoughts

While Garcia prepares for his federally funded getaway, let this be a reminder:

If you’re going to cash 3,600 checks totaling $28 million, maybe—just maybe—file the taxes.

Or at least pick a crime with fewer receipts. 📚🤦‍♂️
