Possible Grenade Found in Condo Storage Locker, Marco Island Police Say
MARCO ISLAND, Fla. — The Marco Island Police Department is investigating after a possible grenade was discovered inside a storage locker at a condominium near 800 Palm Street on Monday.
According to Capt. Dave Ennis, the device was found by someone cleaning out the locker, which belonged to a person who had recently passed away. After the discovery, police were called to the scene and secured the area as a precaution.
The Collier County Sheriff’s Office bomb squad has been called in to examine the item and determine whether it is live or inert.
Authorities are urging residents to avoid the area until the scene is deemed safe. The Marco Island Fire Department is also on standby as part of standard safety protocol.
“This appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no immediate danger to the public,” police said.

Police are investigating an incident involving a possible explosive device found in the Palm Street area of Marco Island on Monday evening, authorities confirmed.
According to the Marco Island Police Department (MIPD), officers responded to reports of a suspicious object and have since requested assistance from the Collier County Sheriff’s Office bomb squad, which is en route to the scene. The Marco Island Fire Department is also on standby as a precaution.
Residents and visitors are being urged to avoid the Palm Street area until further notice. Police have established a safety perimeter while investigators assess the situation.
“At this time, we are treating the object as a potential explosive device out of an abundance of caution,” MIPD said in a brief statement. “We ask the public to remain patient and steer clear of the area while the bomb squad conducts its investigation.”
No injuries have been reported, and officials have not released further details about the nature of the device or how it was discovered.
