A quiet gated community in Naples became the scene of a devastating family tragedy on Wednesday evening after what investigators say was a domestic dispute ended in a murder-suicide.

Emergency crews raced to a home on Avellino Isles Circle in the Vineyards shortly after 7:20 p.m. following reports of a shooting. What they found was a scene of profound violence inside one of Southwest Florida’s most established residential communities.

According to initial reports, a man shot both of his parents before turning the gun on himself.

The suspected shooter and an adult female victim were pronounced dead at the scene less than 20 minutes after first responders arrived.

An elderly man, believed to be the shooter’s father and approximately 80 years old, suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his face, hand and shoulder. The severity of his injuries prompted a Trauma Alert declaration before he was airlifted by MedFlight to Gulf Coast Medical Center.

As flashing emergency lights illuminated the normally tranquil streets of the Vineyards, detectives from the Collier County Sheriff’s Office began piecing together what had unfolded behind the doors of the residence.

By 7:55 p.m., a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office confirmed the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute. Authorities stressed the shooting was isolated and that there was no continuing threat to residents or the wider public.

For neighbours, the violence comes as a shocking reminder that some of the most devastating crimes often occur not in public spaces, but within the confines of family homes.

Investigators remained at the property late into the evening collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses as they worked to establish the circumstances that led to the shooting.

The identities of those involved have not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office investigation is ongoing.
