NAPLES, Florida — An 18-year-old has been arrested after police say they found marijuana, dozens of THC vape products and two fake driver’s licenses during an early morning encounter at Seagate Beach.
According to the Naples Police Department, officers were called to Seagate Beach at approximately 2:39 a.m. Sundayfollowing reports of a parking violation.
When officers arrived, they found a vehicle with its engine running and a man sitting unresponsive in the driver’s seat. Concerned he could be suffering from a medical emergency, officers attempted to wake him before opening the vehicle door.
Police said they immediately detected a strong odor of burnt marijuana after the door was opened.
The driver, identified as Kelly Mardi, 18, later told officers he was fine and admitted he had consumed “a little” alcohol earlier. When asked whether there were any illegal drugs or weapons inside the vehicle, police say Mardi replied, “just a cart,” referring to a vape cartridge.
Officers detained Mardi while searching the vehicle.
According to the arrest report, investigators discovered a dinosaur-themed bag containing multiple vape devices and a green leafy substance that later tested positive for marijuana. Officers also recovered numerous THC vape products and two allegedly fraudulent driver’s licenses.
Mardi was taken into custody and faces an extensive list of charges, including:
Two counts of unauthorized possession of a driver’s license
46 counts of possession of a controlled substance without a prescription
45 counts of possession of drug paraphernalia
One count of possession of cannabis over 20 grams
35 counts of a person under 21 violating tobacco laws
The investigation remains ongoing.
