A tragic and deeply serious scene unfolding in Collier County this morning, where a house fire has left one person dead and two others in hospital.

Emergency crews were called shortly before 10am to a property on Hickory Road in the Pine Ridge area — the kind of quiet residential street where, on any normal Saturday, nothing much stirs. But today was anything but normal.

Firefighters from the North Collier Fire Department arrived to find the home well involved in flames. Despite rapid action on scene, it took until around 11:23am before the blaze was finally brought under control.

The consequences have been devastating.

Officials confirm one occupant of the home has died. Two others were taken to hospital — one suffering burn injuries, and a firefighter also requiring treatment for heat exhaustion after battling the intense conditions inside and around the property.

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office says the State Fire Marshal has now been brought in, and the investigation is very much active as authorities work to determine exactly how this fire started and how it escalated so quickly.

For now, Hickory Road has reopened to traffic — but the scene itself remains anything but normal, with fire investigators and deputies still combing through what remains of the property.

And at the centre of it all, a family tragedy, unfolding in real time on an otherwise ordinary Florida morning.
