🚤 Overturned Boat Recovered After Alert Citizen Contacts Marco Island Police

Quick action by a vigilant member of the public helped ensure a potentially dangerous situation on the water ended safely last Friday.

The Marco Island Police Department’s Marine Unit responded after receiving a report of an unoccupied vessel that had overturned in local waters.

When officers arrived, they located the capsized boat and were able to identify and contact its owner. Fortunately, the owner was unaware the vessel had overturned and was relieved to learn there were no injuries associated with the incident.

The owner promptly arranged for Sea Tow to recover the vessel.

Police praised the individual who reported the overturned boat, noting that timely calls about unusual activity on the water allow first responders to quickly determine whether anyone is in distress, launch rescue efforts if necessary, and help reunite owners with their property.

With thousands of boaters enjoying Marco Island’s waterways throughout the year, officials encourage residents and visitors alike to report anything that appears out of the ordinary.

“See something, say something” doesn’t just apply on land—it can make all the difference on the water as well.
