MARCO ISLAND, Fla. — A woman suffered serious injuries after falling from a moving golf cart on Marco Island Thursday evening, prompting an emergency response and an airlift to a local trauma hospital.

Just after 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, officers with the Marco Island Police Department and firefighters from Marco Island Fire Rescue responded to reports of a traumatic injury involving an adult female who had fallen from a moving golf cart.

According to police, the woman sustained serious injuries in the incident. Due to the severity of her condition, she was transported by Collier County MedFlight to a local hospital for advanced medical treatment.

Police Issue Fourth of July Golf Cart Safety Reminder

With the busy Fourth of July holiday weekend underway, the Marco Island Police Department is urging residents and visitors to use extra caution when operating golf carts and low-speed vehicles.

Police remind drivers and passengers that everyone should remain properly seated while the vehicle is in motion. Drivers should avoid sudden acceleration, sharp turns, and hard braking, which can cause passengers to lose their balance and fall.

Officials also stress that passengers should never stand while the vehicle is moving, sit on another person’s lap, or ride in areas that are not designed for passengers.

In addition, operators are reminded to:

  • Obey all traffic laws.

  • Never drive while impaired by alcohol or drugs.

  • Avoid distracted driving.

  • Ensure children are properly restrained when required.

  • Slow down and remain alert, especially during the busy holiday weekend.

The Marco Island Police Department says following these simple safety precautions can help prevent serious injuries and keep the community safe as thousands of residents and visitors celebrate Independence Day.
