🚔 Arrest Made After Foot Pursuit on Marco Island
MARCO ISLAND, Fla. — A man was arrested Monday evening after fleeing from Marco Island Police officers who were attempting to take him into protective custody under Florida’s Marchman Act.
According to the Marco Island Police Department, officers responded shortly before 5:30 p.m. to the 1800 block of San Marco Road after receiving a report of a possibly intoxicated person outside a local business.
After speaking with the man, officers determined he met the legal criteria for protective custody under the Florida Marchman Act, which allows individuals believed to be impaired by substance abuse and in need of emergency assessment to be transported for medical evaluation.
As officers informed the man that he would be taken to a hospital for treatment, he allegedly fled on foot.
🏃 A brief foot pursuit followed, ending near the Walgreens on San Marco Road, where officers safely took the suspect into custody.
Police identified the man as Shane Dipaolo, of Hollywood, Florida.
During a search following the arrest, officers reportedly found less than 20 grams of marijuana in his possession.

Police said Dipaolo was transported to a hospital for medical treatment. After being medically cleared, he is expected to be transferred to the Collier County Jail.
Marco Island Police credited the quick actions of responding officers with bringing the incident to a safe conclusion without injuries to members of the public, officers, or the suspect.
As with all criminal cases, the charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
