Woman Runs Into Pond to Escape Deputies After Rattlesnake Hammock Road Chase, CCSO Says

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. — A woman accused of leading Collier County Sheriff’s Office deputies on a vehicle pursuit tried an unusual escape by running into a pond after abandoning her car, but deputies quickly caught up with her, authorities said.

According to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), the incident happened on July 13 along Rattlesnake Hammock Road.

Deputies said the driver, identified as Amber Evans, refused to stop when deputies attempted a traffic stop, leading officers on a pursuit through the area.

After eventually bringing her vehicle to a stop, investigators say Evans jumped out of the driver’s seat and sprinted directly into a nearby pond in an apparent attempt to evade arrest.

Video released by CCSO shows Evans wading into the water before deputies tracked her down and took her into custody.

Despite the unconventional escape attempt, authorities said the pursuit ended without serious injuries.

Evans was arrested and charged with:

• Fleeing or attempting to elude a law enforcement officer

• Resisting arrest

She was transported to the Collier County Jail. Additional details about what prompted the initial pursuit have not yet been released.
