Steamy Southwest Florida Start: Heat, Humidity and Afternoon Storms Expected

NAPLES & MARCO ISLAND, Fla. — It’s another steamy start across Southwest Florida this morning, with warm, humid air and partly cloudy skies greeting residents in Naples and Marco Island.

Temperatures are starting out in the upper 70s to low 80s, with both communities expected to heat up quickly. Naples could reach 92–94°F today, while Marco Island is forecast to top out around 91–92°F.

The heat will be the bigger story this afternoon, with heat index values climbing to around 105–109°F during the hottest part of the day. Residents and visitors spending time outdoors should take frequent breaks, drink plenty of water and limit prolonged exposure to the afternoon heat.

🌦️ Storms Possible This Afternoon

The morning should remain mostly dry across Naples and Marco Island, making the early hours a better window for boating, fishing, golf and other outdoor activities.

That changes by early afternoon.

The best chance for showers and thunderstorms will come roughly between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., as the daily sea-breeze pattern helps trigger storms inland before pushing activity toward the Gulf Coast.

Naples is expected to have a slightly higher rain chance of around 40%, while Marco Island is closer to 30%.

Some storms could produce heavy downpours, gusty winds and frequent lightning. Outdoor plans should remain flexible, particularly during the mid-to-late afternoon hours.

Storm activity should gradually diminish around sunset and become much quieter after midnight, although conditions will remain warm and muggy overnight.
