Man Arrested in Florida After Instagram Tip-Off Leads Detectives to Alleged Child Predator

Man Arrested in Florida After Instagram Tip-Off Leads Detectives to Alleged Child Predator.

A 39-year-old man is in custody in Florida tonight after a digital paper trail—sparked by a tip-off from social media giant Instagram—led specialized detectives to uncover an alleged child exploitation plot.

Jonathan Larraga Cordova was arrested on Monday in Collier County, on the state’s gulf coast, following a multi-agency investigation into the online grooming and sexual abuse of a young girl.

Detectives from the INTERCEPT Task Force say Cordova used social media to make contact with the child before traveling to her neighborhood on multiple occasions to engage in sexual activity.

The breakthrough in the case came after a CyberTip from Instagram triggered an urgent inquiry. Law enforcement officers subsequently seized electronic devices for detailed forensic analysis and carried out a specialist interview with the victim.

Cordova now faces severe state charges, including:

  • Lewd or lascivious battery on a child aged between 12 and 16

  • Traveling to meet a minor after using a computer to facilitate human contact

Immigration Status

In a further twist tonight, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) confirmed it has lodged an official detainer against Cordova.

Under standard American legal procedure, he will first face trial and any potential prison sentence within the Florida state justice system. Once those criminal charges are satisfied, he will be transferred directly into federal custody for deportation proceedings.

The case underscores the growing, coordinated crackdown by American law enforcement and tech firms against those using digital platforms to target vulnerable children across state lines.
