A summer afternoon on the Gulf of Mexico has ended in heartbreak after a 16-year-old swimmer lost their life following an emergency response at a Naples beach.
Emergency crews rushed to the 2nd Avenue North beach access in Naples shortly after 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28, following reports that a teenager had gone missing while swimming in the Gulf.
Naples Police, Naples Fire-Rescue, and the countywide Marine Emergency Response Team all responded as the search unfolded in the rough waters.
The swimmer was located approximately 17 minutes after the initial call, pulled from the water at around 2:25 p.m. — but was found unresponsive and not breathing.
Despite the desperate efforts of first responders, including CPR performed at the scene, the teenager could not be revived after being transported to a local hospital.
