On this day in 1995, Walt Disney World Resort welcomed its 200 millionth guest, highlighting just how quickly Central Florida had become one of the world’s premier vacation destinations.

When Disney World opened in 1971, few imagined the impact it would have on Florida. By the mid-1990s, millions of visitors from around the globe were making the Sunshine State their vacation destination every year.

Today, Walt Disney World spans more than 25,000 acres, includes four theme parks, two water parks, dozens of resort hotels, and remains one of Florida’s largest employers.
