Firefighter Injured as Blaze Breaks Out in Marco Island High-Rise

A firefighter has been injured after crews tackled an overnight fire in a high-rise condominium on Marco Island.

Marco Island Fire Rescue was called to the 900 block of Cape Marco Drive at around 1:09 a.m. on Thursday after a fire alarm was activated.

On arrival, firefighters discovered heavy smoke throughout the building before locating the source of the blaze on the 25th floor. The discovery prompted a full high-rise structure fire response, with additional firefighters and mutual aid crews brought in to support the operation.

As emergency teams worked to contain the fire, Marco Island Police officers and firefighters carried out a precautionary evacuation of the building. Officials said no residents or occupants were injured.

One Marco Island firefighter suffered injuries while battling the blaze and was taken by Collier County EMS to a local hospital. The injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The response drew assistance from several neighbouring emergency agencies, including Greater Naples Fire Rescue, the City of Naples Fire-Rescue Department and Collier County EMS. Those agencies also provided fire protection coverage across Marco Island while local crews remained committed to the incident.

Investigators from the Marco Island Fire Rescue Fire Marshal’s Office are now working to determine what caused the fire.

Officials have not released further details on the extent of the damage or whether the affected floor remains inaccessible as the investigation continues.
